I turned a plane-jump scene into a short visual joke that spread across social media.
I used 3D rendering and visual effects to reimagine a moment from IVE’s “I AM” music video. I wanted my exaggerated falling shot to fit the original video closely enough to catch viewers off guard—and make other fans laugh.
The original music video shows Wonyoung jumping from a plane. I reconstructed the moment in 3D and changed what happens next, adding an unexpected fall to an otherwise dramatic scene.

How I made it
I rebuilt the shot as a 3D scene, working with the character’s pose, the camera angle, and the movement to match the original footage. I then used rendering and visual effects to bring the new shot into the edit.

Making the joke work
The effect depended on more than the image itself. I had to make the transition and timing feel close to the music video, then let the exaggerated movement deliver the surprise.

The response
The edit connected with the fandom and spread through reactions, reposts, and recreations. Some viewers even mistook the shot for part of the original music video.

FEATURED ON KNOW YOUR MEME
My edit became part of internet culture.
Know Your Meme featured my video in its article about the “Wonyoung Jumping Out of a Plane” trend. The article credits my account, @portfolio_paulm, and documents how the edit spread across social media.
This project brought together my 3D and editing skills with my understanding of the fandom. It taught me how much the right idea, timing, and platform can matter when sharing creative work.
